Nebout, Beta form prodco

MIPTV: German producer and distributor Beta Film has linked up with the former creative director of Atlantique Productions to launch a drama-focused production firm in Sweden.

Dramacorp is being launched by Atlantique’s Patrick Nebout, who previously set up Nice Drama in Sweden with writer-producer Henrik Jansson-Schweizer, and Beta, under CEO Jan Mojto.

The new firm will work on the origination, development and executive production of high-concept dramas with international appeal.

Beta is described as a “major shareholder” in the new prodco, which aims to develop and secure the creative and financial packaging for projects and is finalising a slate of projects across genres and budgets. It will produce in partnership with Scandinavian and other international producers and talent.

Nebout left Atlantique earlier this year having joined the firm in 2014, working on SVT and Canal+’s Midnight Sun – the first TV project to be coproduced by Franco-Swedish partners.

While at Nice Drama, which was acquired by Modern Times Group and is now understood by C21 to be a takeover target, he produced family saga Thicker Than Water for SVT and Finland’s YLE, which also aired on Franco-German broadcaster Arte and Channel 4 in the UK.

Nebout said: “The scripted market has changed a great deal since I launched Nice Drama six years ago. To develop, create and package IP that is strong enough to make it in today’s market requires an equally strong investor, with extensive international experience, the ability to think outside the box and long-term ambition.

undressed“Jan Mojto and his team at Beta Film fit that description perfectly. Dramacorp is not just another prodco in an already crowded Nordic market. Our concept is horizontal rather than vertical, so we’ll partner with local producers where it makes sense. Our aim is to make compelling and profitable drama and to shorten time-to-market.”

Mojto added: “We are constantly looking for creatives who are able to think and work globally. I am convinced that Patrick’s profound knowledge of the European production market is a perfect contribution to Beta Film’s content activities.”
