NBCU picks up eOne dramas in Europe

Lingo Pictures Australia’s Upright follows a pair of misfits across Australia

NBCUniversal (NBCU) International in Germany has acquired four drama series from transatlantic producer and distributor Entertainment One (eOne) for its channels in Europe.

NBCU International has licensed the pay TV rights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to Deputy, Upright, Nurses and Burden of Truth. The four series will air across the company’s channels, including 13th Street and Universal TV.

Deputy will be the first to launch, airing in April on 13th Street. Recently premiered on Fox in the US, the show is a cop drama from director and exec producer David Ayer and stars Stephen Dorff (True Detective).

Upright, starring Tim Minchin (Matilda the Musical, Robin Hood), is a drama about the unlikely friendship between two misfits thrown together by chance in the middle of the Australian desert. It launched on Fox Showcase in Australia last year.

Nurses is a coming-of-age medical drama starring Tiera Skovbye (Riverdale) and debuted on Global in Canada earlier this year.

Finally, Burden of Truth is a legal drama starring Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, Beauty & the Beast), in which a city lawyer returns to her home town to take on what she thinks is a simple case, only to find herself fighting for justice for a group of sick girls.
