NBCU hires Helwig for scripted

NBCUniversal International Studios (NBCUIS) has hired Lost in Space and Hellboy producer Mark Helwig as its executive VP of scripted.

Helwig will lead the studio’s LA division, reporting to international studios president Jeff Wachtel.

With more than 20 years of experience in both the UK and US, Helwig most recently had a producing deal at US studio Legendary, during which he was executive producer on Netflix series Lost in Space and the feature film reboot of comic book property Hellboy for Lionsgate.

Helwig will work closely with NBCUIS’s development teams and production companies, including Carnival, Matchbox Pictures, Heyday Television, Working Title TV and Lark Productions, to support US-based development, sales and production.

He will also lead its relationships with US networks and SVoD buyers. Together with the wider LA team, he will build on the company’s track record of partnering with established talent and developing emerging voices.

Prior to producing, Helwig served as a motion picture and literary agent in both London and LA. At ICM, Paradigm and Jeff Berg’s Resolution Entertainment, he represented filmmakers such as Andy Muschietti (It, Mama), Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones) and Corin Hardy (The Nun).
