NBCU hands Craftsy role to Jager

NBCUniversal (NBCU) Cable Entertainment has appointed veteran TV producer Patrick Jager to a newly created programming role at its digital start-up Craftsy.

Jager has joined the company, which NBCU acquired last year for a reported US$230m, as VP of programming.

Jager set up his own consultancy firm, Core Innovation Group, after leaving his role as senior VP of development and production at ITV-owned Fixer Upper producer High Noon in 2015.

Among Jager’s tasks at the company will be working on original series. His list of credits includes Behind the Music, Biography and Fixer Upper, while he has also created programming for Nickelodeon, Animal Planet, AMC and Discovery.

NBCU is aiming to turn Craftsy, which sells videos of craft classes alongside supplies and kit, into a “large, recognisable and beloved brand in the world of mainstream lifestyle education and entertainment media.” The firm said Jager’s hire is an important step towards that.

The company last year appointed US toy giant Mattel’s former content boss Catherine Balsam-Schwaber as general manager.
