NBCU ditches UK’s Style Network

NBCUniversal (NBCU) will shut down its UK entertainment channel The Style Network next week after a revamp of its US sister network.

NBCU will end Style’s transmissions from December 9 following an evaluation of options for the channel on a territory-by-territory basis. The UK focus is now on its existing nets Universal Channel, E!, Syfy and Movies 24.

Style had been airing in the UK since 2008.

The decision comes after NBCUniversal dropped Style in the US to launch the Esquire network in September.

A representative of NBCUniversal’s channels division, Universal Networks International, said: “After thorough consideration, Universal Networks International has taken the decision to withdraw Style from the UK with effect from December 9, 2013, and will re-focus its strategic efforts on continuing to build successes across our four distinct channel brands in the UK: Universal Channel, E!, Syfy and Movies 24.”
