NBC to end The Good Place after S4

Multi-award-winning comedy The Good Place stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson

US network NBC has confirmed it will not renew comedy series The Good Place after its upcoming fourth season.

Created by Michael Schur and produced by Universal Television, Fremulon and 3 Arts Entertainment, The Good Place was first broadcast on NBC in 2016, with second and third seasons airing in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Season four of the fantasy-comedy starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson will premiere this fall, after which the series will not be renewed for a fifth season, Schur has confirmed.

“We’ve been tempted to go beyond four seasons, but mostly because making this show is a rare, creatively fulfilling joy,” said Schur. But he added: “At the end of the day, we don’t want to tread water just because the water is so warm and pleasant. As such, the upcoming fourth season will be our last.”

Since its 2016 launch, The Good Place has won the AFI Award and the TCA Award for Program of the Year, a Humanitas Award and a Peabody Award. It has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, Writers Guild Award, Producers Guild Award and a Critics’ Choice Award.

Schur exec produces alongside David Miner, Morgan Sackett and Drew Goddard.
