NBC, Sony set global Hannibal date

US network NBC will premiere its eagerly awaited Hannibal drama series in April, executive producer Bryan Fuller has revealed.

The series will hit screens in the US on Thursday April 4 at 22.00, Fuller said in a Tweet earlier today. It means the series will fill the slot vacated by the recently cancelled Do No Harm, which was canned after just two episodes.

Hannibal, a TV adaptation of the Dr Hannibal Lecter character made famous by the Silence of the Lambs feature film and numerous sequels, is being produced by Gaumont International Television.

Sony Pictures Television Networks was a co-commissioner on the series and will air the series in 63 territories and 18 languages on its AXN channels. It has also sold to Canal+ in France, CityTV in Canada and ProSieben in Germany, distributed by Gaumont.

The series is directed by David Slade and stars Hugh Dancy and Gillian Anderson.
