NBC set for summer Camp

US broadcast network NBC has greenlit a new drama series set in a family holiday camp, to be filmed in Australia and debut in summer 2013.

Camp (13×60′) follows the exploits of both parents and teenagers alike at a US lake-side holiday camp and will be produced by NBCUniversal-owned Matchbox Pictures (The Slap) and BermanBraun.

NBC described the series as a cross between the Bill Murray film Meatballs and the nineties comedy Dazed and Confused, both set in holiday camps.

Jennifer Salke, president of NBC Entertainment, added that Camp contains “rich and dysfunctional characters in that great setting where millions of families and young people go each summer.”

Liz Heldens (Friday Night Lights) and Peter Elkoff (Gossip Girl), both of whom are working on the upcoming NBC series Deception, are the executive producers and creators of the series.

Cast details are yet to be announced. However, production is scheduled to begin in Australia in March.
