NBC plans Munsters reboot

The original Munsters

NBC is set to reboot 1960s comedy series The Munsters alongside Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman, Seth Myers and Universal Television.

The half-hour single-camera comedy is in development with the network and will follow members of an offbeat family struggling to fit in with Brooklyn’s hipster community.

Kargman will write the script and executive produce with Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions’ Meyers and Mike Shoemaker.

The news was first reported by Deadline. It marks NBC’s second attempt to reboot the classic show with Universal.

The network piloted Mockingbird Lane in 2012, with Bryan Fuller as executive producer and Jerry O’Connell, Portia de Rossi and Eddie Izzard among the cast. However, NBC decided not to commission a series.

Last week it emerged NBC was developing a reboot of Miami Vice with the team behind The Fast & the Furious franchise, including actor Vin Diesel’s prodco One Race Television and Chris Morgan Productions.

US cablenet Bravo last year renewed scripted comedy Odd Mom Out, in which acclaimed author Kargman plays a satirical version of herself.
