US network NBC has given a pilot order to a TV version of 1999 film Cruel Intentions as the trend for movie-to-TV reboots continues.

News that the Sony Pictures Television (SPT) project was going into development at NBC was first reported last October and the network has now moved to the pilot stage.

NBC bought the script from the film’s original director and writer Roger Kumble, who is also directing the pilot with Neal H Moritz producing. Humble has penned the revival alongside Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross.

The movie, produced by SPT sibling Columbia Pictures, grossed US$75m upon release in 1999.

It’s the latest in a string of movie-to-TV reboots in the US, including Fox’s The Exorcist, FX’s Rambo, CBS’s Limitless and ABC’s My Best Friend’s Wedding.

Meanwhile, NBC has added a number of comedy pilots, including two multi-camera projects fronted by stand-up comedians.

The broadcaster has ordered an as-yet-untitled comedy project from Bill Lawrence and penned by Adam Sztykiel starring comedian Vladimir Caamano. The show hails from Warner Bros Television and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions.

NBC has also ordered Greg Garcia-produced Sebastian starring stand-up Sebastian Maniscalco and written by The Millers’ Austen Earl.

In addition, the network has added a gameshow/multi-camera comedy hybrid titled Crunch Time from Betsy Thomas.

The show, from Universal Television and David Janollari Entertainment is billed as “intercutting between a real gameshow and the scripted workplace.” It is exec produced by Janollari and Phil Gurin.
