NBC explores Island with Bear Grylls

US network NBC has ordered a local version of hit UK reality adventure series The Island, fronted by Bear Grylls.

The show, based on Shine’s original show for Channel 4, will follow 14 American men as they attempt to survive on a desert island without provisions, hunting for food and water. The show is filmed by the contestants, although there are no eliminations and there is no winner.

The show will be produced by Endemol Shine North America and Bear Grylls Ventures, with Grylls one of the exec producers on the US version.

It extends NBC’s relationship with Grylls, who previously presented shows on the channel including Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls and Running Wild with Bear Grylls.
