Natpe links producers with streamers

The organisers of January’s Natpe Miami conference have set up meetings that will allow international producers to discuss projects with US SVoD giants Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.

There will be 10 international pavilions at the event, featuring firms from countries such as the UK, Spain, Italy, Japan and South Korea.

Natpe president and CEO JP Bommel said around six private meetings had been set up, giving approximately 50 producers from these pavilions the opportunity to make contact with acquisitions execs from the streamers.

“This is customised for the needs of certain pavilions so they can learn what these buyers’ strategies are for acquisitions and what their international ambitions are,” said Bommel.

The Natpe boss also said there had been an increase in buyers registering for next month’s event from companies across the Middle East and North Africa, as well as from countries such as Russia and Ukraine.

The annual conference will take place from January 22 to 24 solely at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel. The last three editions of the event took place across an expanded campus that saw the exhibition space located at the Fontainebleau while conferences were held at the neighbouring Eden Roc resort, but Natpe has decided to bring proceedings back under one roof following feedback from delegates.

“We’ve listened to our members and we’ve brought the whole conference and marketplace into the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. That’s going to help networking events tremendously,” said Bommel.

Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks, recently appointed co-chairs of NBC Entertainment, have been named as keynote speakers at the annual conference.

Additionally, a first-time special event headlined by filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry and produced by Natpe, entitled Living the Dream: A Career in Content, will take place on January 21 prior to the conference opening its doors.

Meanwhile, former NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, actor and comedian Betty White and Happy Days star Henry Winkler are among the latest industry figures set to receive the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award during the event.

Media mogul Byron Allen, producer and screenwriter Mara Brock Akil and actor, singer and dancer Rita Moreno will also receive the accolade at a special reception at the Eden Roc in Miami Beach on January 23.
