Nat Geo takes on A+E’s Drobnyk

National Geographic Channels has hired an A+E Networks exec to oversee its acquisitions and programme scheduling.

Christian Drobnyk

Christian Drobnyk has been appointed executive VP of programming strategy and acquisitions at Nat Geo, with a remit across National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo Mundo.

Drobnyk will lead the programming and acquisitions strategy and coordinate global launches across Nat Geo’s portfolio.

Reporting to Courteney Monroe, National Geographic Global Networks CEO, he will be a key part of developing the company across all shows and platforms.

Drobnyk was previously senior VP of programming strategy, acquisitions and coproductions for A+E’s Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network channels, where he led the reinvention of the programming strategy around premium original content with series like dramas UnREAL and Mary Kills People.

His is the latest in a series of executive hires at National Geographic following the arrivals of David Miller and Kyle Christensen in its digital team.

“With National Geographic’s continued ethos of creating broader, premium and upscale programming and attracting A-list talent to the network, both in front of and behind the camera, Christian’s addition to our executive team is a natural fit to advance our programming and acquisitions strategy further,” said Monroe.

In July, National Geographic lost Lynn Sadofsky, its VP of production and development to Scripps Networks Interactive.
