Nat Geo sends Tuna south

National Geographic has greenlit a spin-off to its hit series Wicked Tuna for its main channel, and a new series starring dog behaviour expert Cesar Millan for Nat Geo Wild.

Wicked Tuna: North vs South (working title) is being produced by Pilgrim Studios, responsible the original ratings winner, and will air on National Geographic Channel this summer.

The new series follows some of the characters from the original series as they venture away from Gloucester, Massachusetts, and head south in search of Bluefin tuna. The season ends in Gloucester on December 31 forcing the fisherman to look elsewhere, but competition is intense and the weather unpredictable.

National Geographic Channel president Howard T Owens said: “Wicked Tuna is one of our strongest franchises, and taking our tuna fishermen down south allows us to explore a new region of America and new waters in the Atlantic.”

Craig Piligian from Pilgrim Studios is the executive producer along with Mark Nichols. Robert Palumbo executive produces for Nat Geo.

In related news, canine behaviour expert Cesar Millan is returning to screens from Friday March 7 with his new series Cesar 911 on Nat Geo Wild.

ITV Studios America, in association with Leepson Bounds Entertainment, is working on the new series, which sees Millan help with dogs that are disrupting entire communities.

The show will roll out across Nat Geo Wild channels internationally in April.

The executive producers are Millan, David Leepson and Jordan Roberts. For Nat Geo Wild the exec producer is Janet Han Vissering.
