Nat Geo orders factual trio from UK

National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has greenlit three factual shows from its global content hub in London, including a series exploring the 1990s.

’90s Greatest (2×60’) is being produced in collaboration with UK production firm Twofour and will premiere in August as part of a global TV event dedicated to the decade.

The two-part show will first explore the deaths of celebs such as Princess Diana, natural disasters and terrifying acts that occurred during the decade in ‘90s Greatest: Tragedies, while ‘90s Greatest: Football Moments will follow the sport’s landmark moments during the 10-year period.

It will air in August and will be followed by 9/11 Rescue Cops (1×60’), from Testimony Films, in September. The show follows the reactions of a specialist emergency services team during the terrorist attacks on New York City in 2001.

Rosetta: Comet Landing (1×60), a coproduction between NGCI and Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP) about the mission to land a spacecraft on a speeding comet and ride it towards the sun, will premiere later in the fall.

“NGCI is the home of great contemporary history and science, illuminating the pinnacle triumphs and darkest moments that have shaped our world today,” said Hamish Mykura, exec VP and head of international content for NGCI.
