Nat Geo grows development team

National Geographic Channel (NGC) in the US has appointed two executives to bolster its development team and work with production firms on the East Coast and in the UK.

Nicole Reed becomes VP of development at NGC having joined from A&E, where she was director of non-fiction and alternative programming.

She is joined by Igal Svet, who has been named NGC’s director of development. He was most recently at production firm 2C Media in Miami, where he was VP of development and oversaw shows including Swamp Wars for Animal Planet.

The duo’s remit includes building relationships with East Coast production firms and UK-based outfits and both will also be responsible for greenlighting projects.

Svet and Reed will be based in Washington and report to NGC’s head of East Coast development, Charlie Parsons.

Meanwhile, NGC’s director of development Naima Holmes will relocate to the company’s New York office, where she will report to Reed.

The reshuffle follows news this month that David Lyle, CEO of NGC US, and president Howard T Owens would both be leaving the broadcaster.

Chief marketing officer Courteney Monroe was promoted to replace Lyle in the top job.
