Nat Geo boards USS Indianapolis doc

USS Indianapolis: The Final Chapter explores the discovery of the wreck in the Pacific

National Geographic has picked up global rights to a documentary special about the tragic end of Second World War battleship USS Indianapolis and the discovery of its wreck.

USS Indianapolis: The Final Chapter (1×60’) is produced by US-based Vulcan Productions and Lone Wolf Media for PBS and details the discovery of the famous ship’s wreck site three-and-a-half miles below the Philippine Sea.

It has been picked up by National Geographic for its channels worldwide, excluding the US and Canada, from UK-based production funding and distribution agency Drive.

The ship was sunk in the final days of the war, causing the largest loss of life in US Naval history, while hundreds endured hardship as they tried to survive in failing life preservers.

The programme combines never-before-seen archival footage and CGI with the moving accounts of the few remaining survivors, testimony of historians and footage of the well-preserved wreck.
