Mumsnet moves into comedy

UK online parenting forum Mumsnet has begun exclusively hosting a comedy web series, marking the first time it has become involved in video content.

Bad Mother follows a stay-at-home mum

Bad Mother, from Susie Gilmour and Matt Winn, follows a beleaguered, foul-mouthed stay-at-home mum as she tackles the “madness of modern motherhood.”

Each episode in the six-part series is around five minutes long and is being made available on a weekly basis on the Mumsnet YouTube channel.

It stars Laura Patch and Kevin Bishop, both from Channel 4 comedy Star Stories, and is produced by Bad Mother Productions.

Mumsnet began in 2000 as a website for parents to share advice and information on parenting and other topics via its discussion forums. It has since grown into a network of bloggers and has also been behind various national campaigns focused on children.

Justine Roberts, CEO of Mumsnet, told BBC Radio 4’s The Media Show that she was hoping to find a sponsor for the series.

“The content resonates with our audience and it’s in the right format. We will learn as we go along. All this is a test and we will refine it as we learn about what works best for the audience,” said Roberts.
