MTV to use ITV’s SafeWord

MTV in the US has commissioned Lip Sync Battle production company Matador to adapt a celebrity-focused comedy series based on a UK format.

Celeb gameshow SafeWord airs on ITV2 in the UK

The UK version of SafeWord airs on ITV2 and was developed and produced by STV Productions and Motion Content Group (fka GroupM Entertainment). Red Arrow International handles distribution.

Celebrity guests partner with comedians to take on a series of challenges in the form of a comedy roast, but are able to escape the torment by using their safeword.

The US show debuts on July 13 at 23.30ET/PT and is being produced by New York- and LA-based prodco Matador, which is behind singing show Lip Sync Battle for US network Spike.

Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin and Jerry Carita exec produce for Matador, while James Sunderland serves as showrunner. Miss USA 2016 host Terrence Jenkins will front the show and also serves as executive producer.
