MTG hears Conspiracy of Silence

Conspiracy of Silence focuses on arms dealing

Scandinavian broadcast giant Modern Times Group (MTG) has greenlit the latest original drama series from its Nice Entertainment subsidiary for its Nordic streaming service Viaplay.

Conspiracy of Silence is a complex political thriller focused on Sweden’s role in the global arms business.

The eight-part series stars Jens Hultén (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) and is directed by Charlotte Brändström (Outlander).

It will premiere exclusively on Viaplay across the Nordic region next year, before airing on MTG free-to-air net TV3.

The series is produced by Brain Academy, part of MTG Studios-owned Nice Entertainment Group, in cooperation with UK-based Pinewood Television. International distribution will be handled by Eccho Rights.

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG’s executive VP and head of programming and content development, said: “Our original drama slate shows we’re always ready to tackle controversial questions, including Sweden’s role as one of the world’s leading arms exporters. Conspiracy of Silence is a fast-paced story of revenge, guilt and double standards that will leave you breathless – and angry.”

MTG Studios is aiming to become the Nordics’ leading producer of original content and has more than 50 projects in the pipeline.

The latest productions commissioned by MTG Studios are the dramas Alex, starring Dragomir Mrsic, and The Lawyer; political thriller Embassy Down; and the second season of LA-based comedy-drama Swedish Dicks.

Recent premieres include Nordic noir series Hassel, kids’ show Peppy Pals and biopic SuperSwede, about the life of Formula 1 driver Ronnie Peterson.

A global distribution deal was recently signed for Veni Vidi Vici with DRG, while Swedish Dicks has been picked up by US network Pop TV.
