Movistar crosses Endemol Shine’s Bridge

MIPFORMATS: Spanish channel Movistar has greenlit a new social experiment format from Endemol Shine Group (ESG).

Zeppelin TV – a prodco that forms part of the Endemol Shine Iberia group – has created The Bridge, which will be known locally as El Puente when its eight-episode first-run premieres later this year.

The format brings together a group of strangers and challenges them to build a bridge to an island 300 metres away in just 30 days.

If they are successful each contestant must vote on who deserves to receive the life-changing treasure that is kept there. The person with the most votes must then decide whether to keep it for themselves or share it among the group.

Filmed in Patagonia, the format has been added to the ESG’s slate for MipTV in Cannes this week.

Lisa Perrin, CEO of creative networks at ESG, said: “The trend for ground breaking factual programming with scripted sensibilities continues internationally and The Bridge brings stunning movie-like qualities to the genre.

“Coming from Spain, the format is another great example of how Endemol Shine Group has innovative teams around the world creating new ideas on a massive scale.”

Endemol Shine Iberia was previously behind hit international format Your Face Sounds Familiar, which has sold to more than 40 territories.
