MotorTrend revs up head of programming

Mike Suggett

Discovery Communications-owned automotive-focused service MotorTrend has promoted its VP of original content to a new role as head of programming and development.

Mike Suggett is stepping up to lead global strategy for the group’s platforms. This includes developing programming and scheduling strategies for the MotorTrend app, the company’s SVoD service and its MotorTrend linear TV channel, which was formerly known as Velocity.

The network has a schedule anchored by series such as Wheeler Dealers, Roadkill and Bitchin’ Rides and recently announced it was reviving the US version of BBC motoring format Top Gear.

Suggett has more than 13 years of experience in developing original programming, production, cross-platform content strategy and integrated video marketing for MotorTrend.

Prior to MotorTrend Group, he held various positions at E! Entertainment Television and Eye Candy Post and has directed marketing and promotional campaigns for large automotive brands including Toyota/Scion and Acura.

The announcement was made by Alex Wellen, MotorTrend Group global president and general manager, to whom Suggett will report.
