CONTENT STRATEGIES: Uncovering programming opportunities worldwide

Miller resurfaces at top of Celestial Tiger

Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE), the Hong Kong-based pay-TV joint-venture set up last month, has tapped Sony alumni Todd Miller as president and chief operating officer.

Miller (left), who exited Sony Pictures Television in April 2011 after 17 years, will lead the company’s businesses of branded pay-TV channels, production and distribution across Asia and beyond.

CTE, which was launched in December by Lionsgate Entertainment, Saban Capital Group and Celestial Pictures, has also named a board of directors to report to Miller.

Ed Stansfield is chief financial officer and senior VP of business development; Ofanny Choi is executive VP of TV networks; Wendy Reeds is executive VP of content sales and distribution; and Jef Lim is head of programming and production.

Stansfield previously ran US-based on-demand firm Studio 4 Networks, while Choi worked at Celestial and Star TV. Reeds previously led Lionsgate’s international home entertainment sales division, while Lim headed content development and production for Mark Burnett Production Asia. Former Celestial, MGM and Sony exec Andy Chang has also been named senior VP of marketing at CTE.

Other moves at CTE see Keith Mak appointed director of TV networks distribution, primarily overseeing China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia, while director of TV networks distribution Sorel Roget will oversee Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

The news also sees William Pfeiffer, CEO of Tiger Gate Entertainment, the earlier Lionsgate/Saban joint-venture that has been subsumed into CTE, stepping down to take on an advisory role. CTE now operates Tiger Gate channels Kix and Thrill plus Celestial’s movie channels.

“Celestial Tiger Entertainment is uniquely positioned as Asia’s largest regional pay-TV broadcaster dedicated to Asian entertainment,” said Miller, who as exec VP of Asia-Pacific networks, managed Sony’s portfolio of more than 25 of TV networks and channel investments across Asia.
