MGM to begin Affair in Cannes

Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd in Get Shorty

A recently announced 10-part event series for US pay TV network Epix is among the shows on MGM Worldwide Television Distribution’s slate for Mipcom 2017.

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair is based on the novel of the same name about a literary icon who suddenly finds himself indicted for the murder of a young girl.

It will star Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) and air on Epix, the network US studio MGM acquired for US$1bn earlier this year.

MGM’s unscripted slate includes Steve Harvey’s Funderdome (13×60′), the competition show for budding entrepreneurs that was acquired recently by TF1 in France.

It will also shop scripted titles including Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (10×60′), starring Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes and Samira Wiley; Get Shorty (10×60′), a dark comedy with Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd inspired by Elmore Leonard’s 1990 novel; and Condor (10×60′), starring Max Irons and inspired by Sydney Pollack’s 1975 political thriller Three Days of the Condor.
