MGM sends out Four Weddings invite

The original Four Weddings & a Funeral starred Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell

The forthcoming TV remake of classic British romantic comedy film Four Weddings & a Funeral is among the shows on MGM Worldwide Television Distribution’s slate for Mipcom next month.

The anthology series, which will premiere on US streamer Hulu, is written and executive produced by Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton and follows a group of friends as their lives intersect through five events.

Kaling and Warburton, who worked together on The Mindy Project, will executive produce alongside Jonathan Prince, Howard Klein (3 Arts), Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Working Title).

MGM will also shop modern noir drama series Our Lady, LTD, which follows a young con artist as he attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown (Ben Kingsley), who turns out to be far more dangerous than he suspects.

Other shows on its slate include The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, which recently aired in the UK; spy thriller Condor, starring Max Irons, William Hurt and Mira Sorvino; dark comedy Get Shorty, a reimagining of Elmore Leonard’s novel, starring Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd; and the reboot of The Contender franchise, executive produced by Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Voice, Shark Tank) and hosted by retired and undefeated champion Andre Ward.

US studio MGM recently promoted Brian Edwards to a role expanding his remit over the organisation’s TV operations and extended his contract through mid-2022.

Edwards became president of MGM Television Operations last week and will continue to report to Burnett, chairman of the company’s global television group.
