MGM, Burnett target int’l formats

US studio Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) and the chairman of its worldwide television group, Mark Burnett, are launching a new division focusing on formats and unscripted series.

C Scot Cru

Burnett has recruited C Scot Cru and Patrice Choghi, two former executives from Mark Burnett Productions (MBP), to the team. Both Cru and Choghi joined LA-based GRB Studios after leaving MBP in 2018.

Cru and Choghi will oversee international format development at the new division of MGM, which is known for scripted content such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo, Vikings, Get Shorty and Condor.

Survivor creator Burnett was promoted to chairman of the US studio’s worldwide television group last year, with global responsibility for creating and producing TV content. Burnett also had his contract at the company extended through 2022.

“I’ve known Scot for more than 20 years. He is a consummate dealmaker who has a stellar reputation with broadcasters and producers around the world. I’m so happy to be working with him and Patrice again as we move to grow our business internationally,” said Burnett.

MGM and Burnett were last year commissioned by streaming giant Amazon to revive global endurance competition format Eco-Challenge with host Bear Grylls.
