Me+You explores Saving Ashya

Ashya King received medical treatment in Europe

UK-based Me+You Productions is developing a three-part fact-based drama about the story of Ashya King, a British child who was taken to Europe against doctors’ advice by his parents to receive life-saving medical care.

Saving Ashya tells the story of the young boy who was diagnosed with a severe brain tumour in 2014. His parents ‘abducted’ him from his NHS hospital bed and fled to Europe for alternative, life-saving proton therapy.

The events resulted in an international manhunt but have also changed how the NHS treats children with such tumours, with Ashya now free of cancer.

Justin Chadwick (Long Walk To Freedom) is attached to direct while Paul Viragh (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) is writing. Me+You’s co-founders, Richard Yee and Krishnendu Majumdar, are executive producers, along with Chadwick. The producer is Josh Hyams (The Look of Love).

Brett King, father of Ashya King, said the opportunity would be “a great opportunity for us to tell the whole story. It will be a chance for everyone to understand the difficult decisions and choices we had to make.”

Me+You’s slate also includes a three-part drama anthology series for Channel 4 in the UK while recent credits include the six-part Sky1 comedy drama Sick Of It.
