Mentorn hires factual head from ITN

Tinopolis-owned UK production outfit Mentorn Media has appointed an executive from rival ITN Productions as its new head of factual.

Bernie Kay

Bernie Kay is joining the London-based firm in the newly created role, charged with bolstering the its slate of talent-led projects, factual entertainment formats and documentaries.

Kay joins from ITN Productions, where she was appointed as an executive producer in 2015 to help grow the popular factual slate, spearheading the company’s move into daytime formats, celebrity travelogues and docuseries fronted by young presenters.

She won commissions and executive produced programmes including BBC1 returning daytime format Going Back, Giving Back, Channel 4 feature series Big Ben: World’s Most Famous Clock and BBC2 travelogue series Frankie Goes to Russia, presented by comedian Frankie Boyle.

Prior to joining ITN, Kay had senior roles at some of the UK’s biggest production companies including Endemol Shine and RDF Television.

Celia Taylor, Mentorn MD, said: “Bernie’s reputation goes before her so it is fabulous to have her join us at Mentorn. Her experience and creativity will be a real boon and I am chuffed to be working with her.”

The appointment follows the arrival of Simon McKeown from Argonon as head of unscripted in October last year.
