Mendes shops supernatural TV drama

British film director Sam Mendes will re-team with Skyfall co-writer John Logan for a television drama described as a period supernatural thriller.

Mendes took his first turn at directing James Bond with Skyfall, the 23rd installment in the long-running spy franchise, which is currently doing big business at the box office.

He is now in the early stages of development with Logan on a period supernatural thriller, which is being shopped to UK broadcasters and cable channels in the US.

Further plot details are as yet undisclosed, although it will be filmed in the UK through Mendes’ Neal Street Productions label, a spokesman told C21.

Mendes, Logan, and Neal Street cofounder Pippa Harris are on board as producers.

Neal Street was set up by American Beauty director Mendes, Harris and Caro Newling in 2003 and its TV arm is best known for BBC period drama Call the Midwife and Shakespeare film series The Hollow Crown.

It has also picked up the rights to the bestselling Flavia de Luce mystery novels.
