Mediawan detects film prodco Radar

MIPCOM: French independent media group Mediawan has acquired a local feature film company that will use the investment to move into local and international scripted series.

Paris-based Radar Films is on the lookout for projects and, following the deal with Mediawan, will develop several French and international series for the first time, along with French- and English-language feature films. Financial details of Mediawan’s majority stake were not disclosed.

Radar Films has been behind features such as Give Me Wings, The Old Furnaces and the Belle & Sébastien trilogy. Pierre-Antoine Capton, CEO of Mediawan, said the addition of Radar partners Clément Miserez and Matthieu Warter to the group would “enrich its talent pool.”

Mediawan was set up as an investment vehicle in 2015 by Capton, Xavier Niel and Matthieu Pigasse.

Since March 2017, it has expanded with eight strategic acquisitions, including acquiring AB Groupe’s thematic channels along with multiple production companies.

“The ambition of the Mediawan Group is to create a powerful ecosystem with internationally successful content that meets the ever-growing demand for premium content,” said Capton.

Radar Films was set up in 2009 by Miserez and specialises in the production of feature-length fiction films.

Warter, a former employee of the financial department of StudioCanal, has been a consultant for Radar Films since its creation and formally linked with the company in 2012.
