Mediapro, Televisa tee up copros

NATPE: The US division of Spain’s Mediapro and Mexican broadcaster Televisa have agreed a deal to coproduce premium series together, with the first projects and networks already lined up.

The three-year pact will see both companies develop a minimum of three original dramas, with Televisa producing and Mediapro in charge of the creative direction. Shows will be distributed first in the Mexican and US markets before being sold internationally.

Stroke has been created by Daniel Burman, head of content for Mediapro in the US, and is a 62-part show about a man whose life is turned upside down while he’s juggling two divorces and a hectic daily life.

It will air in 2020 on Televisa’s Canal de las Estrellas in Mexico and Univision in the US

Other shows on the slate include Unwanted, a scripted series created by Mediapro’s head of international content development Ran Tellem and Mariano Baselga, executive producer of Spanish-language drama El Internado.

Unwanted, about a pregnancy involving two very different families, is being written by Susana Casares and codeveloped by Camila Misas, content director for Televisa and Mariano Baselga from Mediapro Spain. Broadcaster details have yet to be revealed.

Patricio Wills

“Closing a long-term co-development agreement with Televisa is a strategic step for us and we look forward to join our creativity and experience with their talent and maturity to develop these amazing series for a worldwide audience”, said Laura Fernández Espeso, head of international content at Mediapro.

Patricio Wills, who was named president and head of Televisa Estudios last year, said the deal would allow his company to “keep diversifying our content portfolio” and “strengthen and consolidate our global presence.”

Yesterday, Mediapro revealed the first project to emerge from its nascent five-year multiplatform development and coproduction deal with Turner Latin America.
