Mediacorp dials up Stupid Man, Smart Phone

Stupid Man, Smart Phone will debut early next year on Singapore’s Channel 5

MIPCOM: Singaporean broadcaster Mediacorp has picked up a BBC Studios factual entertainment format that challenges a city-dwelling comedian to complete outdoor adventures armed only with his phone.

Stupid Man, Smart Phone will premiere early next year on Channel 5, Mediacorp’s English-language FTA channel.

The 8×30’ series will be available on Toggle, Mediacorp’s digital entertainment service.

Hosted by Singaporean writer, actor and comedian Hirzi Zulkiflie, the show will feature a new celebrity guest each week. Together they will take on ambitious expeditions, relying only on their online fan base to help complete the tasks.

The show was originally a Second Star and Kalel production for youth-skewing BBC3 in the UK, where it premiered in 2016. It has since been adapted in numerous territories, including Viacom’s VoD streaming service VOOT.
