MBC preps ‘bold’ IS drama

Arabic broadcaster MBC has ordered a “bold, sociopolitical” drama that explores the lives of women living under the rule of fundamentalist group Islamic State (IS).

Gharabeeb Soud (Black Crows) will debut later this month during Ramadan on MBC1 and is being directed by Hossam Rantissi, Hussein Shawkat and Adel Adib.

Based on real-life accounts, the show explores how women are recruited plus their roles, responsibilities and sufferings. It also details the methods employed in recruiting children and the abuse they face under the terrorist regime.

MBC says the show is “the first Arabic drama series of its kind to delve into the rise of extremism in the region” and will feature actors from across the Middle East.
