Masked Singer plans Mexican trip

The Masked Singer

MIPFORMATS: Mexican broadcaster Televisa has partnered with Endemol Shine Group (ESG) to produce a local version of The Masked Singer, following the South Korean format’s breakout success on Fox in the US.

Endemol Shine Boomdog, the prodco formed by ESG and Mexican outfit Boomdog in 2017 to produce Spanish-language content, https://www.c21media.net/endemol-shine-boomdog-combine-in-mexico/ is working with Televisa Studios on a local adaptation as part of a development alliance between the two companies.

The network has picked up the local rights to the singing format from Mun Hwa Broadcasting Corp (MBC) in South Korea and will now adapt it for the Spanish-speaking market.

The format sees a group of celebrities hide their identity behind full body disguises and elaborate masks while singing to a panel of judges, who have to examine every detail of the performance to reveal their true identity.

In the US, the format’s first season launched on Fox in January and set an audience record in its genre and its premiere led all the television programmes in that country. Televisa and ESG have previously paired on local adaptations of formats including Big Brother and Fear Factor.
