Throughout the harsh winter, Ronja secretly supplies Birk with food to help him survive. However, when Borka accuses Mattis of stealing the food, Mattis is devastated. Meanwhile, Chegge persuades Ronja to venture into the forest, where Cappa and her followers await. Chegge warns Ronja that Cappa plans to capture her to get to Mattis. When learning that Chegge has been cast out for allegedly stealing food, Ronja decides to reveal the truth. As Mattis continues his fierce battle against Borka and Cappa, Ronja is torn between her love for her father and her desire to keep Birk in her life.
