A small burger joint called Synanthrope, run by eight part-time workers and an unreliable owner, is hit by a ski-masked robber. Thanks to the resistance of the staff—including Tonari, who has an extraordinary memory, the bold Mizumachi—they manage to drive the robber away despite gunfire. However, during the chaos, the store’s cash register is emptied.

During police questioning, Tonari mentions seeing the name “Orita” and a phone number written on the robber’s hand. According to another part-timer, Orita is the ruthless leader of an underground organization willing to kill for money. Meanwhile, Mizumachi had received a threatening letter from someone named “Speckled Woodpecker” days earlier.

The next day, the owner says the robber has turned himself in, and the team goes ahead with a welcome party for a new member. At the karaoke box, they happen to be in the room next to the robber and his handler from the incident, unaware of each other’s presence. The two reveal they were ordered by Orita to carry out the robbery. Later, while using the restroom, Tonari calls the number he remembered. A phone left behind in the bathroom starts ringing. Confused, he puts it in his pocket.

At the same time, Orita is speaking with his female subordinate. From their conversation, it’s revealed that the threatening letter sent to Mizumachi originally targeted Orita. Suspecting a connection between Speckled Woodpecker and Mizumachi, they had redirected the letter to her.

From a humble burger shop and its quirky staff to a shadowy underworld, and a baffling robbery—their intertwined mysteries lead to one inevitable conclusion…
