Sixteen South Rights represents and manages the global distribution and licensing of all Sixteen South Originals shows.
We’re an independent distributor involved in the pre-selling, financing and rights management of IP, selling all of our sibling’s shows and managing the ancillary rights around the world. We will shortly also be representing other similarly high-quality shows from small boutique independent producers.
Alexandros van Blanken, General Manager at Sixteen South Rights, outlines the Northern Irish studio’s plans to expand into new demos, new platforms and new markets, such as Asia and Lat Am, and also offers a glimpse at the company’s slate for Mipcom.
Founded in 2007 by Creative Director Colin Williams, boutique studio Sixteen South has established itself as a leading player in the global kids’ content market. Headquartered in Holywood, a seaside town just outside Belfast, the firm has delivered a steady stream of award-winning shows, including Lily’s Driftwood Bay and coming right up to current hit series Odo. Along the way it has made much-loved series including Claude and WildWoods.
Sixteen South Rights’ General Manager Alexandros van Blanken – who is based in London – says the firm is built around three standalone but interconnected divisions: “Colin leads the studio and heads a team of four which is our originals/development team. Everything we create in the children’s space, whether it’s from original ideas or options on IP, starts there. Then we have a studio operation and a rights division, which I head. I work alongside Distribution Executive Hannah Hook, and between the two of us we represent all our shows.”
