The past and the present can both cast a long shadow

This taught, mystery drama is a deftly crafted, character-driven drama that follows Dublin-based Theo Richter, an Irish Special Branch detective, as he heads to New Zealand to help search for two young Irish tourists who have vanished without a trace. They’ve gone missing from Mount Affinity, a picturesque rural town with a dark history of disappearance and death that has recently become home to supposedly altruistic tech conglomerate Houkura – dividing the local population.

This will be Richter’s last case as he’s just announced his early retirement, surprising colleagues. He’s teamed with Diana Huia, a recently promoted young detective who returns to her hometown to work the case. Seemingly worlds apart, but both hiding secrets, Theo and Diana must find a way of gaining local trust, differentiating facts from fiction and stopping all-out war to find the young Irish couple before the clock runs out.

Leaning into real-world events and featuring stunning scenery and drops of dark humour, “The Gone” is a gripping and thought-provoking contemporary detective drama.
