In the first season of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, we meet Detective Sergeants Henry Graff and Frankie Bateman, the smartest cops working today — which explains why they make such an extraordinary team. Graff is a Renaissance man with a mind that never sleeps and a fascination with criminal psychology. Bateman is an exceptionally intuitive, pragmatic empath who can read any room in which she sets foot. Together, these brilliant detectives will use every trick in the book to solve some of the city’s most infamous murders. Their boss, Inspector Vivienne Holness, a seasoned and highly respected officer, works with the tenacious Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester to ensure the detectives’ cases are airtight.
Set and shot exclusively in Toronto, Season One of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent will deliver ten self-contained stories in which law and order are skillfully served. Each episode kicks off with a cold open that plays out like a mysterious mini-movie, ending with a dead body… and sometimes even revealing the culprit. The rest of the episode follows the investigation, with Graff and Bateman digging into the victim’s life, questioning suspects, and, most importantly, drilling down into the killer’s motive to elicit a confession. Like the original Criminal Intent, this series interrogates the “why” and “how” behind the crime, not just the “who.” The show highlights the police point-of-view, but it also spends time with the criminals – delving into those driven to despicable acts by the universal desires and afflictions of greed, revenge, self-preservation, betrayal, jealousy and love.
