From the company behind Line of Duty, The Gathering cleverly wraps globally relevant themes about what it means to be a teenager – or a parent of teenagers – into a contemporary, twisting whodunnit. Kelly inhabits two very different worlds. As an elite gymnast, she is at odds with her privileged teammates and their ultra-ambitious parents in the controlling environment of competitive sport. But she also rolls with a reckless, free-spirited group of urban free runners. When Kelly is violently attacked at an illegal beach rave, both groups of teens, along with their parents, give equal cause for suspicion. As their disparate lives are unpacked in the quest to discover Kelly’s attacker, this multi-layered story throws today’s ‘surveillance’ parenting into sharp focus. Is it a parent’s duty, and right, to be overly invested in their kids, or are kids better left to run free? Produced by Graham Drover (Boiling Point) and executive produced by Simon Heath, Laura Cotton, Gareth Bryn and Helen Walsh.
