MIPTV: That’s My Jam, the NBCUniversal (NBCU) music competition show fronted by Jimmy Fallon, has taken home two prizes at this year’s International Format Awards, which were streamed at MipTV and simultaneously on C21Media.net today.
The show won in the Best Studio-Based Gameshow Format category while Fallon also took home the prize for Best Host of a Format.
The show was created by Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog and Universal Television Alternative Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, for US broadcast network NBC and NBCU-owned streaming service Peacock. It has more recently been picked up by French commercial network TF1 for a local adaptation.
Elsewhere at the awards presentation, held in Cannes this lunchtime, Banijay’s long-running classic format Survivor won the Best Returning Format Award.
Three prizes were picked up in Benelux, with The Musical of Your Life, produced by Dedsit for Play4 in Belgium, named Best Factual Entertainment Format; The People’s Playlist, produced by Fremantle Belgium for VTM, winning Best Multi-Platform Format; and The Traitors, from IDTV Netherlands for RTL, claiming Best Competition Reality Format.
Two awards went to the Nordics, with Lego Masters, originally produced by Metronome Denmark for local broadcaster TV2, named Best Brand-Driven Format, and Ultimate Escape, from Rabbit Films for Discovery+ and TV5 in Finland, announced as the judges’ choice for Best Reality Format.
The Masked Singer creator Wonwoo Park won the Gold Award this year
This year’s International Format Awards Gold Award marked the achievements of Wonwoo Park, the creator of worldwide hit The Masked Singer.
During 25 years in the Korean television industry, Wonwoo Park has created 17 top-rating unscripted shows and worked on 600 hours of primetime television. His company, diTurn, has also led the way in allowing creative talent to retain their fair share of format rights.
More than 200 formats were entered in the awards from across the globe in a year that saw the quality and range of formats undiminished by the pandemic, according to the judges.
The International Format Awards are a coproduction between C21Media, FRAPA, the Entertainment Masterclass and MipFormats.
