This month’s C21 Marketplace Hot Properties playlist offers 19 new and returning titles for buyers to check out, featuring a murder in the New Zealand wilderness, a steamy romance set in the world of ice hockey and the truth behind a great art fraud.
First from the world of drama comes Cineflix Rights’ The Walsh Sisters. Based on the best-selling novels by Marian Keyes, the story follows five Irish sisters as they navigate life’s messiness – stumbling through secrets, family feuds and moments of grace – as they confront who they truly are and the roles they’ve always played. At its heart, it’s a story about love, painful growth and the bonds that hold us together.
Next up, from executive producer Jed Mercurio and starring Vicky McClure, comes the third season of Trigger Point (All3Media International), a propulsive, high-octane thriller set in the world of bomb disposal.
In The Ridge (Boat Rocker), Mia (Lauren Lyle) accepts a wedding invitation from her estranged sister in a remote New Zealand village, only to find the bride-to-be dead upon her arrival. Convinced her sister was murdered, she untangles a web of secrets threatening to tear the rugged mountain community apart. Mia’s resolve is unwavering and she’ll stop at nothing to solve her sister’s murder.
Lightening the mood is season two of ABC Commercial’s Mother & Son, which sees comedy favourite Denise Scott return as the delightfully unpredictable Maggie, joined once again by Matt Okine as her long-suffering son Arthur.
From executive producer, director, and writer Jacob Tierney and based on Rachel Reid’s best-selling cult classic novel, Heated Rivalry (Sphere Abacus) is a steamy romance set in the world of ice hockey, while Viaplay Content Distribution’s Adults tells the story of 30-year-old Mathilda. With a promising job at a law firm and a stable relationship, she seems to have it all. But when her boyfriend unexpectedly proposes, emotions spiral out of control. Questionable choices are made and a dangerous affair soon puts Mathilda’s carefully constructed life at risk, forcing her to confront who she really wants to be.
Rounding up this month’s drama picks, Nails (Federation Studios) asks what happens when four women suffering from chronic stress meet at a nail salon and decide to reclaim their femininity, while in Buy-A-Guy from TV Osaka, Nodoka visits a massage parlour and opens up to therapist Yamato about her marital problems.
In the worlds of documentary and factual we have AI Love You (Banijay Entertainment). This ground-breaking two-part documentary follows Katrine, her husband Stephan, and their son Victor on a deeply personal journey. When Stephan is diagnosed with terminal cancer, the couple pursues the unthinkable: creating an AI avatar of Stephan so he might continue to live, for Katrine and for their son.
Money. Fame. Fraud. Inigo Philbrick was an overnight sensation, selling priceless art to the world’s richest collectors. For the kids comes critically acclaimed epic saga The Dragon Prince (Cake), a top 10 show in 69 countries on Netflix and available in 30 languages. The final chapter was announced in July through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, which reached its goal in under five hours.
Finally, four young animal friends, Pounce, Gemma, Neville and Frizzy, spend an action-packed summer at the spectacular Kangaroo Beach (Australian Children’s Television Foundation), training as junior cadets with their lifeguard heroes. When an emergency breaks out, the cadets step up to help keep the water safe.
