Hot Properties November 2024
C21 Digital Screenings hosts a monthly ‘Hot Properties’ screenings event on the platform to help connect programme suppliers and content buyers. Check out the latest shows from the world’s leading suppliers.
As the nights grow longer – at least in the Northern hemisphere – C21’s Hot Properties playlist for November has a wealth of varied content for buyers to peruse.
This month’s Hot Properties playlist on C21Marketplace includes documentaries on threats to democracy, journeys across Europe and revelations from long-lost civilisations.
First up, from the world of documentary, Autentic Distribution’s Dying Democracies – Europe in Decline asks what it means for all our futures when right-wing populists come to power.
Next is Saving Dror from Jill Samuels Productions, a first-hand account of the Hamas terrorist attack on Kibbutz Be’eri during the early hours of October 7, 2023, and one father’s perilous escape alongside his five-year-old daughter.
Sue Perkins’ Big Adventure: From Paris to Istanbul (DCD Rights) finds the eponymous comedian embarking on an adventure along the route of the Orient Express, tracing a path through the heart of Europe. Elsewhere, the unique treasures of the recently uncovered Shu Kingdom in China are explored in Terranoa’s The Lost City of Sanxingdui.
Rounding up our documentary choices comes Fox Entertainment Global’s Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, which explores the lives and sacrifices of historical figures such as Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi, John the Baptist and Moses the Black.
In drama, we have All3Media International’s Ellis, an atmospheric police procedural about an overlooked black female police officer with a deep-seated determination to find justice for those in need. Also in the world of crime, we have Cineflix Rights’ Virdee. When a serial killer holds the city of Bradford to ransom, Harry Virdee must make a choice: save himself and his family or save his city.
Then there’s Shady Job Family from TV Tokyo Corporation, a more light-hearted take on the criminal underworld. Five underdogs form a fake family and find themselves being used for an undercover investigation by police without realising.
From Academy Award winner Thomas Vinterberg comes Families Like Ours (StudioCanal), a gripping family drama about a nation forced to say goodbye to its homeland – a testimony to the will of human beings to survive, to hope and to love. The past and the present also cast long shadows in Seven. One Studios International’s second season of The Gone, as Irish Special Branch detective Theo Richter heads to New Zealand to help search for two young Irish tourists who vanished without trace.
Away from the criminal world is ABC Commercial’s Ladies in Black, a vibrant, stylish series set in a 1960s Australian department store, starring Debi Mazar and Miranda Otto. Meanwhile, inspired by the story of Italian pop band 883, Banijay Entertainment’s Accidentally Famous follows Mauro and Max as fame overwhelms them and threatens to destroy their friendship.
More light-hearted fare comes in the form of Viaplay Content Distribution’s Meaning of Life. From hunting trips gone wrong to baby scans and unexpected reunions, this thought-provoking comedy looks at the roads we take in adulthood and the things we are willing to give up along the way.
Worst to First: A Teen Baseball Miracle from Tokyo Broadcasting System Television is the heartwarming story of a man who refuses to give up on his hopes of becoming a teacher. He not only realises his dream but also tries to nurture a near-defunct baseball team to become the best in Japan.
In kids’ entertainment, we have Australian Children’s Television Foundation’s MaveriX, in which six young motocross riders come together to form a team hoping to make the national trials, or crash out trying.
Talking Tom Heroes: Suddenly Super from Cake follows a group of friends transformed into superheroes! Now they’re off on an adventure to discover their real powers and save the day. The importance of respecting nature, self-sacrifice and the power of friendship in the face of adversity is also on display as the heroes of Rainbow SPA’s Gormiti – The New Era battle the forces of evil.
Finally, for those after something in factual-entertainment, The Ultimate Hustle (Sony Pictures Television Formats) gives budding entrepreneurs the opportunity to take their side-hustle skills to the next level.
That’s all for November, stay tuned for more Hot Properties next month.
