Hot Properties March 2024
C21 Digital Screenings hosts a monthly ‘Hot Properties’ screenings event on the platform to help connect programme suppliers and content buyers. Check out the latest shows from the world’s leading suppliers.
March is upon us and with it comes a new playlist of programmes for C21’s Digital Screenings, brimming over with fresh drama, documentaries, formats and animation. Enjoy!
This month’s playlist for C21’s Digital Screenings offers no less than eight new dramas, four documentaries, four entertainment formats, three kids shows and a comedy. Distributors are evidently getting their ducks in a row for the spring buying season and the various industry events on the horizon.
The dramas on the list include We’re on it, Comrades! (ZDF Studios), set in a world full of mysteries – and where there are mysteries, the investigators of the Institute of Paranormal Phenomena must intervene. Meanwhile, So Long, Marianne (Cineflix Rights) recounts the legendary love story between the iconic singer and poet Leonard Cohen and an extraordinary Norwegian woman, Marianne Ihlen.
Port Poison (Bavaria Media International) follows a good-hearted son who puts moral questions aside to raise money for his alcoholic mother’s treatment by selling drugs, while Catch Me a Killer (Abacus Media Rights) tells the harrowing true story of former journalist-turned-psychological profiler Micki Pistorius, South Africa’s first serial killer profiler.
Described by producers as “thought-provoking,” The Trigger (StudioCanal) dissects a media scandal spiralling out of control in the high-pressure world of professional football, while Shopping Basket (Chukyo TV Broadcasting) offers “a fun and thoughtful portrayal of people at the supermarket,” according to the Japanese TV company.
Red Arrow Studios International is behind Forgiven, following one woman’s struggle through a heady yet dangerous relationship, while Miss Scarlet and the Duke (A+E Media Group) returns with more stories about the first ever female detective in Victorian London.
The playlist also includes some animation: Grimsburg (Fox Entertainment Global), following a man who may be the greatest detective ever but cannot crack the mystery of his own family.
On the factual front, from ABC Commercial comes The Way We Wore, hosted by the iconic Celeste Barber (Wellmania) and offering a fresh take on the history of Australian fashion, while Mayhem! The Scandalous Lives Of The Georgian Kings (Blue Ant Media) explores “one of the most dysfunctional royal dynasties in British history,” according to the producers.
The Truth About My Murder (Boat Rocker), meanwhile, documents a race against time to separate fact from fiction following a murder. Rounding out the documentary slate, The Art of Seduction (Autentic Distribution) uses examples from the past and present to explore a game of power, desire and manipulation.
For buyers of lifestyle factual, we have The Property Developers (Oaia Road Studios), which centres on husband-and-wife team Kenyon and Charlotte Clarke, giving viewers an all-access pass to the highs and lows of entrepreneurship in a billion-dollar business.
For buyers looking for more formatted unscripted content, there are four entertainment properties on this month’s playlist. Deal or No Deal Island (Banijay) follows the mysterious Banker and the 13 strangers he’s invited to his private island with promises of luxurious adventure and millions in prize money – but they will soon find nothing is quite as it seems. Just Circle It!, meanwhile, is from NHK/NHK Enterprises of Japan and is “a new type of quiz show where anyone can answer questions by just circling them, according to the producers.
The Unknown (All3Media International) follows two teams of strangers on an epic journey, where they must choose between the known or the unknown, while Prue Leith: My Cotswold Kitchen (DCD Rights) sees the eponymous cook offering up her favourite recipes, tips and tricks to tempt taste buds, from her own home in the English Cotswolds.
For the younger audiences, check out the three kids shows on the playlist. Crazy Fun Park (Australian Children’s Television Foundation) centres on a shy teen who wants desperately to fit in – if only his dead best friend and a group of rotting ghouls would stop sabotaging him at every turn.
Next comes Pip & Posy (Magic Light Pictures), which follows two best friends whose lives revolve around a wonderful world of play, followed by Angry Birds Summer Madness (Cake), in which “sparks and feathers fly when young teens Red, Stella, Chuck, Bomb and the rest of our favourite Angry Birds spend a crazy summer at Camp Splinterwood,” according to the producers.
That’s all for March, stay tuned for more Hot Properties next month!
