Hot Properties July 2024
C21Marketplace hosts a monthly ‘Hot Properties’ event on the platform to help connect programme suppliers and content buyers. Check out the latest shows from the world’s leading suppliers.
As we head into the summer, buyers will be thinking about their programming plans for the fall season and beyond. Here we showcase some of the latest Hot Properties on offer via C21’s Marketplace platform.
Factual programming is hot at the moment, given the rising costs of scripted, so this month’s Hot Properties playlist kicks off with some documentaries.
The Stormtrooper Scandal (Banijay Entertainment) would be a good place to start. This feature doc tells the story of a get-rich-quick scheme in which art curator Ben Moore pocketed millions from the auction of digital artworks known as NFTs based on stormtrooper helmets from Star Wars. Tombs of Egyptian Priestesses (Blue Ant Media), meanwhile, follows a team of Egyptian archaeologists that discovered a cemetery, opening a window on to a unique period in the history of ancient Egypt.
For nature lovers, we have Kui Buri – Thailand’s Hidden Eden (Autentic Distribution), telling the story of a Garden of Eden hidden deep within the jungles of South-east Asia, a national park that’s home to an almost unimaginable variety of animals. More natural history comes with Decoding Animal Culture (Terranoa), which explores how culture plays a vital role in the lives of animals and in the survival of species.
Turning to music biography, No Way To Say Goodbye: The Life & Music of Leonard Cohen (Boat Rocker) offers a profound insight into the life of the singer and songwriter and why he is so revered, while Alone Australia (A+E Media Group) is an adventure reality series that sees what happens when 10 Australians are dropped off in different areas of a remote wilderness where they must deal with the forces of nature, hunger and loneliness.
Buyers looking for more formatted entertainment can check out the classic quizzer Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (Sony Pictures Television Formats), with the classic UK series, it’s relaunch fronted by Jeremy Clarkson and the US version hosted by Jimmy Kimmel available to screen. More challenges come with Birdman Rally (Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation), a Japanese comedy challenge format in which self-designed human-powered aircraft race across the largest lake in Japan.
On the scripted front, this month’s Digital Screenings playlist includes six new dramas, starting with Perfect Match (Fox Entertainment Global), which dramatises the relationship between tennis stars Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi as they face challenges on and off the court. Black Out (aka Snow White Must Die) is a series from Bomanbridge Media that centres on a man who embarks on a relentless quest to uncover the truth and clear his name after serving 10 years for a murder he has no memory of committing.
The Boy That Never Was (Abacus Media Rights) is described by the producers as “a deeply atmospheric and masterfully crafted tale of love and loss that will chill you to the bone,” based on the best-selling novel by Karen Perry, while Spinners (StudioCanal) tells a double-layered story of crime, desperation and vicious gangs set against the unique backdrop of Cape Town’s suburbs.
Little Did I Know (Viaplay Content Distribution), meanwhile, is “a poignant story of resilience and growth that reminds us of the transformative power of love,” according to the producers, and Great Gift (TV Asahi Corporation) is a Japanese show about a series of murders that take place in a hospital and involve an unknown killer virus.
For buyers in the children’s TV space, we have two titles on this month’s playlist: Cooking Buddies (Cake), a fun cooking show presented by 13-year-old Buddy, son of renowned celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, and Odo (Sixteen South), in which a little owl and his best friend positively tackle every challenge, no matter how big.
That’s all for July, stay tuned for more Hot Properties next month!
