Still got some slots to fill in your 2024/25 schedule? Look no further than this month’s Hot Properties playlist on C21 Marketplace, which is brimming over with new drama, factual, formats and comedy.
This month’s Hot Properties playlist is majoring in drama and documentary, with 16 new titles for buyers to peruse, ranging from crime drama and period espionage to factual titles about untold history and the latest in science.
First up is Black Out (aka Snow White Must Die) from Bomanbridge Media, about a man who serves 10 years for a murder he has no memory of committing and begins a quest to uncover the truth and clear his name. Another new drama, Stayer (Viaplay Content Distribution), follows a musician who faces his harshest test when the mother of his child dies tragically.
The next drama series is Traces of Grace (NHK/NHK Enterprises), about a man who embarks on a road trip by following the navigation history of his late wife’s car to find out if she was unfaithful. Rounding out the drama this month is Signora Volpe S2 (Banijay Entertainment), about a disillusioned British spy turned detective who starts a new life in the beautiful heart of Italy.
Italian food and travel combine in comedy movie Two Scoops of Italy (Fox Entertainment Global), in which an American chef travels to a quaint village in Italy for inspiration, and falls in love with the flavours, culture, gelato – and the Italian gentleman who helps her discover it all.
On the factual front, this month we’ve highlighted several documentaries and factual series. De-Extinction – Species Protection 2.0 (Autentic Distribution) explores how scientists are using genetic engineering to revive extinct species, while Handball: A Family Affair (StudioCanal) is described by producers as “an uplifting docuseries retracing the history of the French national handball team, one of the most awarded in the world, told through the eyes of its star players.”
For history lovers, Triumph: Jesse Owens & the Berlin Games (A+E Media Group) examines the American athlete’s dedication and triumph at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, overcoming Hitler’s theory of Aryan supremacy, while Mozart’s Sister (Abacus Media Rights) tells the story of the other Mozart, Maria-Anna, a child prodigy forgotten to time, as seen through the eyes of musicians, musicologists and researchers.
No Way to Say Goodbye: The Life & Music of Leonard Cohen (Boat Rocker) also delves into musical history, offering insights into Cohen’s life and why he is an incredibly revered songwriter, while history of a different kind is uncovered in King of Kings – Chasing Edward Jones (Terranoa), which revisits 60 years of American history and an untold page of black history, told by Jones’s granddaughter Harriet.
Factual with a different flavour comes in the form of Royal Table – France (GAD), which invites viewers to embark with the kings on a culinary voyage around the world, while more exploration comes with Cumbria: The Lakes & The Coast (DCD Rights), which discovers that with sandy beaches, sleepy villages and fascinating industrial heritage, there’s far more to Cumbria than its lakes.
For buyers looking for entertainment formats, we’ve highlighted Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (Sony Pictures Television Formats), the pioneering quizzer that gives ordinary people the chance to win life-changing sums of money, and new format Koso Koso (Nippon TV), a comedy gameshow in which celebrity secret agents prank unsuspecting contestants to win them cash prizes.
Rounding out this month’s playlist is children’s cookery series Cooking Buddies (Cake), described by the producers as “a fun cooking show presented by 13-year-old Buddy, son of world-renowned celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.”
That’s all for August, stay tuned for more Hot Properties in September!
