It’s the end of the 19th century, Cileta and her family lives on a farmhouse where they cultivate wheat, until the arrival of Oleguer, an usurer with obscure business dealing, a Poor-squeezer, who expropriates and takes over Cileta and her family farmhouse.
When he leaves the farmhouse to marry the wealthy ex-notary’s widow and control all the capital of the town, Cileta realizes the rules of the game: money comes first. She infiltrates Donya Tuies' palace and works there as a maid. The young peasant girl delves into Oleguer's dark intimacy, seduced by him and the money, and ends up crossing lines she never imagined she would.
