Filmed over several years in South Africa’s Sabi Sands Game Reserve, Mapogo: The Lion Throne tells the extraordinary true story of six male lions whose alliance transformed the balance of power across one of Africa’s most fiercely contested landscapes. Led by Makulu, Mr T and Kinky Tail, the Mapogos conquered territory, overthrew rivals and took control of prides on a scale that stunned researchers and secured their place in wildlife legend.
Yet dominance comes at a cost. As loyalties shift and the coalition begins to fracture, the bond that made the Mapogos seemingly unstoppable is tested by rivalry, loss and the brutal realities of survival. The series also reveals the strength and strategic choices of the lionesses, whose protection of their cubs and fight for survival shape the fate of every pride within the Mapogos’ domain.
Designed from the outset for mobile viewing, the 51 × 2 minute series brings the scale, intimacy and dramatic force of premium natural history storytelling into the vertical space. Narrated by Sam Myerson, star of the hit vertical series Oops, I Married My Bestie’s Brother and My Dear Brother Is Obsessed with Me, it is jointly produced by Bomanbridge Media and COL Group for FlareFlow, COL Group’s global mobile first platform. Mapogo: The Lion Throne is the world’s first wildlife vertical series.
