My Mom Cooks Better Than Yours is the highly entertaining culinary gameshow which mixes together food, comedy, competition and family clashes in a bid to win a tasty cash prize. FremantleMedia has acquired the global format rights to the series (excluding Spain and Italy) from production company Mandarina who’s successfully producing the format for Mediaset España (Spain).

The format takes a parent and their adult son or daughter into the kitchen studio to cook the best dish in a set amount of time. They will be pitted against another parent/offspring duo, with the mother (or father) in both cases giving their grown-up child instructions from the sidelines on how to cook the recipe. With family relationships under the spotlight, My Mom Cooks Better Than Yours provides an insight into what really happens in family kitchens throughout the nation. And as the kitchen heats up, tempers soon start to boil over with hilarious results. With the clock ticking the contestant has to listen carefully to avoid a grilling from their parent, and if things start to go wrong mum or dad can push a ‘panic button’ which allows them to intervene, but it also eats into the team’s time allowance by making the time wind down twice as fast.

Once the rival team has had their turn, a food critic blind tastes both dishes and judges them on taste, presentation and the use of ingredients. After giving an evaluation, the critic makes a decision and reveals which contestant’s ‘mom cooks better.’ The winning team also receives a cash prize and comes back to the next show to defend the title.

Upon acquiring the global format rights, FremantleMedia has gone on to secure five commissions for My Mom Cooks Better Than Yours including El Trece (Argentina), Prima TV (Romania), TRT (Turkey) Pop TV (Slovenia) and TV Joj (Slovakia).

When it initially launched on Mediaset's channel Cuatro in March 2014 My Mom Cooks Better Than Yours (Mi Madre Cocina Mejor Que La Tuya) proved a big hit with young adults. The launch outperformed Cuatro's prime time average by +39% among 25-34s and when it launched a few days later in daytime it won shares up to +169% higher than Cuatro’s daytime slot average for young adults (13-24). Following this, My Mom Cooks Better Than Yours had another successful launch on El Trece (Argentina) becoming the channel’s highest rated new entertainment launch of 2014. It was #1 in its time slot as Argentina's #5 most watched show of day
