Sam Partner, head of international distribution at US-based TV movie distributor Studio TF1 America, explores how the global market for TV movies is evolving, the importance of the holiday period and what’s on his slate for Mipcom.
How are international demand and audience profile for TV movies changing?
While our movies are generally produced in North America, the international audience has experienced huge growth in recent years. Our movies have become a regular feature on linear channels worldwide and streamers have opened the movies up to a new audience.
What genres in TV movies are most popular and why?
The Christmas and romance genres consistently perform for us; our movies boast high production values, exotic locations and the genre’s top talent. Our thrillers are a genre we see perform especially well as they are daytime-friendly which is a big help for programmers filling the daytime slots. All of these genres tend to give the audience the kind of comfort and escapism they are looking for in different ways.
